The February Melbourne Meetup
Earlier this month we had the absolute pleasure to put on another great PhotoMerchant Meet Up {PMMU}. Up front let me just say that if you are ever able to get yourself to one of our shin digs: DO IT! These events are just flat out fun. Not only do you get to hang with the actual guys behind PhotoMerchant; the website you are using to make your photography more profitable, but you also get to meet a bunch of new people, usually in a similar boat as yourself.
Anyway, Back in late January our intrepid PhotoMerchant team had a whole lot of meetings happening in Melbourne and with only two weeks out from said meetings they realised that this would be a perfect chance for a last minute #PMMU! So with a medium sized room booked at the always hip The Loop Laneway Bar the event invite went out! We thought we may get a few interested folk, but man alive! It became standing room only!
We had an amazing collection of photographers from every corner of Melbourne. We even had a gentleman fly in from Alice Springs for the night to check out what PhotoMerchant could do for his growing hobby! The room grew so crowded that our own CEO Elmar couldn’t fit in, so we had him become our waiter for the night, getting the attendees free drinks all night! As always our brilliant co-founder Kain gave an amazing presentation of where the PhotoMerchant platform is now and where it is going in the next few months. PhotoMerchant’s CTO Derek was on hand to help answer questions and throw in the occasional clarification.
Did I mention that there was free drinks and food for everyone? After the main presentation we were able to hang in and around the bar. It was a perfect February summer night in the city and there was lively discussions about the finer points of uploading, selling downloads and the state of stock photography happening all over the bar. I have to say it is always a pleasure to see people getting to know each other, business cards exchanging hands, iPhone’s bumping or people texting contact details to each other, that is what these events are all about!
